The fall semester is half-way through. Your student may need help to achieve their full academic potential, especially if this is their first year in college. Whether it is due to a challenging class or a busy schedule, the first step is to ask for help. Remind your Tiger that Pacific offers a robust academic support program, including advising, free tutoring and special accommodations for students with disabilities.

Academic Advisers

From orientation through graduation, academic advisers are here to provide personalized mentoring. They can help navigate degree requirements and coach your student in time management. Your student should reach out to their faculty adviser if they need extra academic support or to connect with other beneficial campus resources.

Academic Support Services

Pacific also offers assistance through the Student Academic Support Services Hub located in the university’s library on the second floor. It provides free services to all students regardless of their academic progress. Individual appointments can be scheduled on the Hub’s website.

The Hub’s services include:

  • Writing Center - writing support for all skill levels. In an inviting, non-judgmental space, peer-mentors help students develop transferable writing skills, build collaborative learning relationships and foster self-efficacy.
  • The Math Lab - drop-in tutoring for students in most math classes from algebra to calculus and statistics.
  • The General Academic Tutoring Center - free peer tutoring in a variety of subjects. Tutors are sophomores, juniors, seniors or graduate students who have succeeded academically in the subject with a B+ or better or have been recommended by their professors.
  • Collegiate Learning Skills Workshops and Coaching – instructors discuss student success strategies, including tips on time management, study skills, active reading, testing and assignment preparation and maintaining motivation.
  • Student Athlete Study Hall - resources to assist student-athletes in reaching their full potential academically, athletically, personally and professionally.
  • Research Consultations - an academic support librarian helps students choose research topics, and search library and web resources. Your student can also learn to evaluate, manage and cite sources.

Learn more about these services on Pacific’s Academic Support page. If your student needs additional accommodations due to their disability, you can find helpful information in our story “Students with Chronic and Temporary Disabilities Get Help at Pacific
