University of the Pacific is offering new opportunities to make it easier for your student to have the important experience of living on campus.

While many colleges across California are facing on-campus housing shortages and spiraling rents off campus, Pacific is creating a four-year campus housing guarantee for all new undergraduates. Pacific joins UCLA among the very few California universities offering a four-year housing guarantee.

First-year students enrolling this fall on our Stockton campus will be guaranteed campus housing for all four years. New transfer students will be guaranteed housing for up to three years, depending on when they start at Pacific.

Pacific can accommodate more than 2,500 students on campus: 1,089 in apartments, 1,277 in residence halls and 138 in sorority and fraternity houses. Students live within walking distance of their classrooms, eateries, athletics facilities and administrative offices. They can also enjoy entertainment at the university’s movie theater and concert hall.

New scholarships

President Christopher Callahan and First Lady Jean Callahan have created a $200,000 endowment which provides scholarships for undergraduate students living on campus. The endowment will be doubled by the Powell Fund, a gift matching program at Pacific, bringing the total amount to $400,000.

“The cost of higher education across America continues to go up,” the president said. “We’re trying to keep costs as low as possible here at Pacific, but there’s always going to be a great need for students to receive financial help. We hope that in a small way this gift will help students attend Pacific, succeed and go on to do great things.”

All first-year undergraduate students living on campus are eligible to apply for the Callahan Scholarship. Once granted, the money will be deposited directly to a student’s account and applied based on individual needs. It is worth noting that the scholarship can be renewed annually for students who live on campus and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

In addition to the obvious benefits, such as convenient proximity of campus amenities and activities, living on campus can also help your student’s academic performance.

“Research shows that students who live on their campuses perform better academically, are more engaged in co-curricular activities and graduate at higher rates than those who commute,” the president said.
